Best HVLP Paint Sprayer for Cabinets

Best DIY Paint Sprayer for Cabinets

First I was skeptical, then impressed. Wagner seriously improved this product over the last few years. I just sprayed five cabinet door and didn’t have to thin the primer or the paint. Going from a dark to light color took two coats, but it was a piece of cake. Got in the corners of the cabinet perfectly. I usually spray with a Grayco Magnum airless but that was overkill for cabinet work. Cleaning up the gun was effortless, I used some fabric softener in the water.

Pros
  • Quick and easy clean up
  • Makes bigger projects a breeze
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Learning curve

How to spray kitchen cabinets

Remove the cabinet doors

Before getting started you will have to remove the cabinet doors. Be careful not to damage them when you unscrew them from the cabinet like I did. Also be sure to remove any handles that can be unscrewed.

Clean the cabinet doors

For the best finish possible you have to clean the cabinets before spraying. I used some dish soap and paper towels. You also need to sand them down to remove the gloss so the new paint will stick. This is done easily with some sand paper.

Prime the cabinets

While technically optional, It is recommended to apply a coat of primer before painting. This will help the paint adhere to the surface.

Spray the cabinets

Finally you can start painting! Apply two coats with a minimum of four hours in between.
